This opulent mosque in Abu Dhabi is one of the most fascinating places I’ve visited. Like a vision of ol’ Persia one sees in the movies, it is jaw-dropping when one walks in to it. It was the stuff of fantasies. Yet I couldn’t help wonder – Islam espouses simplicity, then why build this?
